  47.   WinNET Mail (TM) is a Windows 3.1/Windows 95 application for sending
  48.   and receiving Electronic Mail and News articles with the
  49.   world-wide Internet and Usenet networks using just your
  50.   Windows system and a modem.  The connection with the
  51.   Internet and Usenet is provided through WinNET
  52.   Communications' computer system providing WinNET (SM)
  53.   service.

  55.   W h a t   i s  TCP/IP?
  56.  
  57.   TCP/IP is software that allows you to establish a direct 
  58.   connection to the Internet network so that you can use client
  59.   software that requires interactive access to network resources.
  60.   Examples of such client software would include World Wide Web 
  61.   (WWW) browsing software such as Mosaic or NETSCAPE, on-line FTP
  62.   programs, Internet Relay Chat, Internet Talk Radio, Gopher,
  63.   Telnet, and so forth.  These programs are not included in the
  64.   electronic distribution of WinNET, but public domain versions
  65.   of various Internet applications are available (free of
  66.   charge) through WinNET Communications once you set up an 
  67.   account.  In fact, you can start downloading these programs
  68.   as soon as you get connected -- we provide installation support
  69.   to make setting up TCP/IP and various applications completely 
  70.   automatic.

  72.   WinNET's TCP/IP software is a special, high-performance version
  73.   of Core System's highly regarded Internet Connect product.  When
  74.   you set up WinNET, the TCP/IP software is transparently installed and 
  75.   set up to operate using PPP (Point-to-Point) protocol for serial
  76.   (modem) communications.

  91.   The WinNET Mail & News (TM) software, Core TCP/IP
  92.   protocol stack, and WWW browser installation software is
  93.   distributed freely for the purpose of connecting with
  94.   the WinNET service.  There is no charge for the software
  95.   as long as it is used for this purpose.

  97.     The WinNET service is billed on a monthly flat rate
  98.     basis of

  102.     When you use the U.S. 800 access number you get

  128.   From the Windows program manager File menu, or
  129.   directly from the Window's File Manage program, Run the
  130.   SETUP.EXE program supplied with the WinNET distribution.
  131.   Use the More Information button to get more information on
  132.   each screen.  This program will also set up an Internet
  133.   Account for you with WinNET Communications Inc.'s Internet
  134.   Service.
  135.   
  136.   This will ask you for billing and credit card information.
  137.   The program will call the WinNET Communications WinNET server
  138.   and submit your account request.  After a one minute
  139.   pause, the program will call back to verify that the
  140.   account was accepted.
  141.   
  142.   All account requests will be accepted unless the System
  143.   Name that you choose under SETUP is already taken by
  144.   another WinNET customer.  If the account request is not
  145.   successful, you will need to re-run SETUP, select a different
  146.   System Name, and re-run the account program.

  150.       U p g r a d i n g   f r o m   a n

  154.    The instructions for upgrading a previous version of
  155.   WinNET are basically the same as outlined in the above
  156.   steps describing a new installation.   When you are asked to
  157.   specify the directory where WinNET should be installed, specify
  158.   the same directory where your old copy of WinNET was
  159.   installed.  This will cause the setup program to overwrite
  160.   the old WinNET files with the files from the new version.
  161.   Your old setup parameters will be detected and appear as
  162.   the defaults in the setup process.
  163.   
  164.   NOTE: Do not update WinNET with a earlier version of WinNET.  
  165.   Always use the same version as installed or a later version.
  166.   
  167.   SPECIAL EXCEPTION: Versions 2.50 and later of the sharware WinNET 
  168.   will recognize WinNET Plus 3.0 (and later versions) and will not
  169.   overwrite the executables and will just install the online software
  170.   and related files.

  174.   The most likely source of problems that you may have with
  175.   WinNET Mail is the SETUP Communications Parameters:
  176.   
  177.     1.  Make sure that the COM port is set to the port that
  178.         your modem uses. 
  179.   
  180.     2.  Make sure that the interface speed it not set faster
  181.         than your modem can handle.  Note:(V.FC-28.8K modem owners.  
  182.         In most cases if you are calling our US or Canada Toll Free 
  183.         number you will not be able to run your modem at speeds over 
  184.         19200.  Please see node.txt).

  186.     3.  Verify that the telephone number being dialed will
  187.         work correctly from your facility and area.
